Welcome!

Books, Gifts, Local Guides & Maps

Possibly the most beautiful bookshop I’ve ever visited…

Established in 2023, we are an inclusive and welcoming independent local bookshop in the village of Stow, serving the Gala Water valley, Galashiels, Lauder and beyond in the beautiful Scottish Borders. On the A7 and the Borders Railway, we are easily reached by public transport directly. We may appear deceptively smaller on the outside than the inside and we pride ourselves on having two storeys; thousands of stories! Pop in and have a look!

We are usually open Wednesday-Sunday 1000 -1630hrs. Please note: the bookshop will be closed from Friday 10th- Friday 17th (incl.) for a short break. We will reopen as usual on Saturday 18th October at 10.00am.

We have a growing and regularly-refreshed range of popular and literary fiction, crime fiction, history and culture, travel, cookery, gardening and home / lifestyle, poetry, horror, graphic, young adult and more! We also have a growing range of folklore and witchcraft, Scottish Borders and Scottish history books.

Our children’s books have their own specially-created spaces with a separate area for toys and games (including a table for little ones to enjoy some colouring-in.)

We have a carefully-curated selection of gifts from ethical, fairly traded and environmentally-friendly suppliers from around the world as well as a growing range from talented local artists and craftspeople here in the Scottish Borders.

Throughout the bookshop, you will find comfy armchairs to sit and browse through your selection. If you are not able to visit upstairs, we will be happy to bring a selection of books and gifts downstairs to you or share a short video of our stock. Please see our accessibility guide for further information.

If you aren’t able to visit us, or we happen to be closed when you need a book quickly, you can buy through our profile on the ethical site bookshop.org.

“Little gem of a bookshop tucked away in the Borders. A bit like a Tardis much bigger than it looks, with a good selection of books, we go mostly for the children’s books. A couple of nice spots for having a wee read and a log burning stove to keep everyone toasty…”

Thank you for buying your books from bookshops and not billionaires!
