Books, Gifts, Local Guides & Maps
Your braw, inclusive and welcoming independent bookshop in the village of Stow, serving the Gala Water valley, Galashiels, Lauder and beyond in the beautiful Scottish Borders. On the A7 and the Borders Railway. Two storeys; thousands of stories!
We are usually open Wednesday-Sunday 1000-1630hrs.
We will be closed on the morning of Thursday 1st May to attend the Sustainable Bookselling Conference and will be open from 1.30-4.30 on that date.

We have a growing and regularly-refreshed range of fiction, crime, history, travel, cookery, gardening and home / lifestyle, poetry, horror, graphic, young adult and more! We also have a fine range of folklore and witchcraft, Scottish Borders and Scottish history books.
“What a gem! This bookshop is a goldmine of an incredible selection of carefully curated books. Classics, new literature, crime and a fab children’s section are all here, but the stand out is local history and folklore as well are a focus on the natural world…”
Our children’s books have their own specially-created space with a separate area for toys and games (including a table for little ones to enjoy some colouring-in.)
We have a carefully-curated selection of gifts from ethical, fairly traded and environmentally-friendly suppliers from around the world as well as a growing range from talented local artists and craftspeople.

Throughout the bookshop, you will find comfy armchairs to sit and browse through your selection.
“Possibly the most beautiful bookshop I’ve ever visited…”
If you are not able to make it upstairs, we will of course be happy to bring a selection downstairs for you to look through.
If you aren’t able to visit us, or we happen to be closed when you need a book quickly, you can buy through our profile on the ethical site bookshop.org.
“Little gem of a bookshop tucked away in the Borders. A bit like a Tardis much bigger than it looks, with a good selection of books, we go mostly for the children’s books. A couple of nice spots for having a wee read and a log burning stove to keep everyone toasty…”
